New Delhi [India], January 1 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday highlighted the decisive role played by weapon systems developed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) during Operation Sindoor, praising the organisation for its commitment to safeguarding national interests. The remarks were made during a review meeting at DRDO Headquarters in New Delhi on the occasion of the 68th DRDO Foundation Day.
“The weapon systems developed by DRDO played a decisive role during Operation Sindoor, which serves as a testament to the professionalism and commitment of the organisation towards safeguarding national interests,” Singh said. He added that DRDO’s equipment performed seamlessly during the operation, boosting the morale of the armed forces.
The Defence Minister expressed confidence that DRDO will play a critical role in the creation of the Sudarshan Chakra, an air defence initiative announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2025. Under this programme, DRDO is tasked with equipping vital installations with advanced air defence systems to ensure complete aerial protection over the next decade.
Singh also lauded DRDO’s collaboration with the private sector, start-ups, and academia, calling it a key factor in building a synergistic defence ecosystem. He emphasised the organisation’s continuous improvements in procurement, project management, and industry engagement, which have made its operations more efficient and reliable.
Highlighting the importance of innovation and future readiness, the Defence Minister stressed the need for ongoing learning and technological scanning to remain relevant in rapidly evolving warfare domains. “The world is changing every day. Technology, innovation, and new warfare domains are rapidly advancing, making yesterday’s knowledge obsolete. We must continue learning and challenge ourselves, paving the way for the new generation,” he said.
During the meeting, DRDO Secretary and Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat briefed Singh on ongoing R&D activities, 2025 achievements, initiatives promoting industry and start-ups, and the roadmap for 2026. Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, along with DRDO directors and senior scientists, were also present. (ANI)
