Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], January 3 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly condemned the recent US bombings on various “strategic centers” in Venezuela, labeling the attacks as an act of “terrorism” that threatens the stability of Latin America, a region with a long history of resisting foreign intervention and imperialist pressures.
Calling the bombings “imperialist aggression,” Vijayan stressed the need for global unity against such actions. In an official post on X on Saturday, he wrote: “Strongly condemn the blatant imperialist aggression by the US on Venezuela by bombing various strategic centers. This reveals the vicious operation of a rogue state, fueling unmasked hostility in the Global South for imposing its devious schemes. It’s also an act of terrorism, posing a threat to the tranquility in Latin America, a continent with the legacy of enduring such onslaught and anti-imperialist struggles. All should rise in unity to call out this brazen assault on Venezuela and resist the imperialist moves against global peace.”
Earlier on Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the US military action against Venezuela, calling it a violation of the country’s sovereignty and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law. The ministry also emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for planning and carrying out the military aggression.
The Venezuelan crisis has sparked deep divisions across Latin America. Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa Azin wrote on X: “To all the narco-Chavista criminals, your time is coming. Your structure will completely collapse across the entire continent. To the Venezuelan people: it’s time to reclaim your country. You have an ally in Ecuador.”
Meanwhile, Chilean President Gabriel Boric called for a peaceful resolution after the US strikes, urging that the crisis be addressed through dialogue and multilateral diplomacy.
The developments follow President Donald Trump’s confirmation that the United States carried out a large strike in Venezuela during which President Nicolas Maduro and his wife “were captured and flown out of the country.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry described the US action and the capture of Maduro as armed aggression, denouncing the pretext used to justify the operation and supporting calls from South American leaders for an urgent UN Security Council meeting.
The capture of Maduro comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Venezuela. Trump has repeatedly accused the Venezuelan President of leading a “narco-terrorist” government. US Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced on Saturday that Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism and will face US justice. (ANI)
