Washington, DC [US], January 11 (ANI): Protesters took to the streets across the United States on Saturday to demonstrate against immigration enforcement operations following the shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota, CNN reported. In downtown Los Angeles, demonstrators gathered outside federal buildings on Alameda Street, carrying upside-down American flags and handmade anti-ICE posters. Police blocked nearby intersections with squad cars and issued dispersal orders, though a small group of protesters remained as officers tried to move them.
Similar demonstrations were reported in Austin, Texas, where protesters marched and chanted outside a federal building. Law enforcement personnel, some armed, monitored the crowd of approximately 150 people. According to LAPD officials, dispersal orders were issued in response to acts of vandalism by some protesters.
The protests follow the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good on Wednesday morning by an ICE agent. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that the victim attempted to “weaponise her vehicle” to run over an officer before being shot. State and local officials have contested claims that the shooting was in self-defense, amid rising tensions from the deployment of 2,000 federal agents as part of the Trump administration’s ongoing nationwide immigration enforcement operations.
