New York [US], January 14 (ANI): Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, on Wednesday welcomed the UN’s decision to convene an emergency debate of the Security Council amid widespread anti-regime protests in Iran and affirmed his support for the protesters.
In a post on X, Danon said that after days of violence, suppression, and large numbers of killed and wounded protesters, the international community must act. He criticized what he described as hesitation by the global community while alleging that Iran’s leadership continues to use force against demonstrators. Addressing the Iranian people, he said they were not alone and that their struggle for freedom was stronger than any oppressive regime.
Meanwhile, European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas praised the anti-regime protests led by Iranians and condemned the use of force against demonstrators. She warned that additional sanctions could be imposed.
In a post on X, Kallas said the courage of the Iranian people was humbling and described the response by security forces as unacceptable, saying it exposed a regime afraid of its own citizens. She added that the European Union already has sweeping sanctions in place on Iran and is now discussing further measures.
Earlier, Finland summoned Iran’s charge d’affaires over escalating violence against protesters by Iranian authorities. Finland called for an end to aggression, the release of all unjustly detained demonstrators, and the protection of the right to access information, including internet access, according to a statement by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said Iran’s charge d’affaires was informed that the brutal crackdown on protesters was unacceptable. He added that while the EU has already imposed several sanctions on Iran, Denmark would take further steps if deemed necessary.
In a post on X, Rasmussen said Iran’s actions against protesters were unacceptable and that Denmark was prepared to pursue additional measures alongside existing EU sanctions.
Iranians have been protesting since December 28, 2025, with the demonstrations drawing international attention. Meanwhile, Iran is expected to witness further unrest as the administration has decided to execute its first protester amid mass arrests of anti-regime demonstrators, according to a report by the New York Post citing human rights groups.
