Islamabad [Pakistan], January 15 (ANI): Iran’s envoy to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, stated on Thursday that US President Donald Trump has assured Tehran he will not launch an attack and has urged Iran to exercise restraint, reported Dawn.
The remarks come amid widespread protests in Iran over rising living costs, accompanied by internet restrictions imposed by authorities. Earlier, Trump had signaled potential intervention but noted on Wednesday that killings of protesters had ceased and said he would “watch and see” regarding military action.
According to Moghadam, he received information around 1 AM local time indicating that Trump did not seek war and had requested that Iran refrain from attacking American interests in the region. The Iranian envoy acknowledged the protests as a response to legitimate grievances but accused US and Western media of exacerbating tensions.
Moghadam claimed the situation is now “fully under control,” with no ongoing protests, despite threats from Israel and the US. He added that Iran remains on high alert, with its airspace temporarily closed, and warned that in the event of aggression, Iranian forces would target US and Israeli installations in the region.
The envoy also criticized statements made by President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on January 7 as interference in Iran’s internal affairs. He alleged that armed groups were responsible for killings, attacks on mosques and imambargahs, and acts of arson.
While emphasizing Tehran’s commitment to peace, Moghadam’s statements underline that Iran remains prepared for any potential threats. According to Times of Israel, clashes between protesters and security forces have resulted in an estimated death toll ranging from under 3,000 to over 12,000. (ANI)
