Washington, January 17 (ANI): Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation has arrived in the United States to present a comprehensive account of the consequences of Russian strikes.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said, “The Ukrainian delegation is already in the United States. Their main task is to present the full and accurate picture of what Russian strikes are causing. Among the consequences of this terror is the discrediting of the diplomatic process: people lose faith in diplomacy, and Russian attacks constantly undermine even the limited opportunities for dialogue that existed before. The American side must understand this. Progress is also needed on the documents that have been in preparation. Ukraine has never been and will never be a roadblock to peace, and it is now up to our partners to determine whether diplomacy moves forward.”
Kyiv and its European Union allies are seeking firm commitments from US President Donald Trump on Ukraine during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Politico Europe reports. Earlier in January, Zelenskyy noted that Russia has been suffering losses of at least 1,000 soldiers killed daily since December, calling the situation “madness” and urging the United States, Europe, and other international partners to unite in stopping Russia.
Trump had previously stated that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine were in their final stages, adding that the war would either end or continue for a long time following discussions with Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
Earlier this month, Zelenskyy met US delegation members Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Paris to discuss a diplomatic approach to ending the conflict. He expressed gratitude for the United States’ willingness to provide security guarantees and support for reconstruction.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said in a post on X that the US delegation met with the Ukrainian delegation and the Coalition of the Willing to advance President Trump’s peace plan. The US delegation included Jared Kushner, General Alex Grynkewich, Ambassador Charles Kushner, and White House advisor Josh Gruenbaum.
The Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine, and the United States met in Paris, emphasizing their commitment to “just and lasting peace in Ukraine.” The European Commission welcomed the progress made toward peace.
French President Emmanuel Macron described the meeting as providing “unprecedented unity” among the Coalition, Ukraine, and the United States on security guarantees for Ukraine. The meeting outlined commitments to politically and legally binding guarantees to be activated once a ceasefire is in effect. This includes participation in a proposed US-led ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism and continued long-term military assistance and armament for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, encompassing long-term defense packages and support for financing weapon purchases.
