New Delhi [India], February 7 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias on strategic and security issues during the latter’s visit to New Delhi.
Dendias is in India at the invitation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. In a post on X on Friday, Jaishankar said he was delighted to welcome the Greek minister and described the discussions as an in-depth exchange covering a wide range of strategic and security matters, while appreciating Dendias’ insights and assessments.
Dendias also shared details of the meeting on X, expressing gratitude for the invitation. He said he was honored to meet Jaishankar at his residence in New Delhi as part of his official visit to India and noted that they held a cordial discussion on regional and international developments.
Earlier, on February 6, Dendias said he was paying an official visit to India at the invitation of his counterpart Rajnath Singh, with whom he was scheduled to meet in New Delhi. He added that he would also meet External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, participate in a discussion at the India-EU Forum on international developments and security issues, and hold meetings in Bengaluru to explore cooperation opportunities between the Greek defense industry ecosystem and its Indian counterpart.
The visit comes a few weeks after the signing of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement. Speaking about the deal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that India is signing future-ready trade agreements with several countries. He added that whether it is the trade agreement with the European Union or the recent deal with the United States, these agreements are being widely praised across the world.
Replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Modi said India has emerged as a trusted partner for many nations and is playing an active role in promoting global welfare. He said the trade deal with the European Union boosted global confidence in stability, while the agreement with the United States further strengthened confidence by adding a sense of speed and momentum to that stability, calling it a positive sign for the world.
