Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 7 (ANI): US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in Mumbai on Saturday to cheer for his team during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Calling it a big day for his side, Gor shared his excitement in a post on X after landing in the city.
“Just landed in Mumbai for the T20 World Cup game. Big day for Team USA. Go Team USA,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Indian cricketers Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy, along with members of the support staff, visited the Shri Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple in Mumbai ahead of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign opener against the United States at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Members of the Indian team offered prayers at the temple before the match.
India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will be defending their T20 World Cup title in the 2026 edition of the tournament. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup began on February 7 and is scheduled to conclude on March 8. The opening match of the 20-team tournament features Pakistan and the Netherlands, who are playing the campaign opener at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Saturday.
The United States is placed in Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and will begin its campaign against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the previous edition, the USA impressed the cricketing world with a Super Eight finish in their debut World Cup across both formats. They also defeated Pakistan and produced competitive performances against India and South Africa, the eventual champions and runners-up, narrowly missing out on chasing down 195 against the Proteas in the Super Eight stage.
The USA squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup includes Monank Patel as captain, along with Jessy Singh, Andries Gous, Shehan Jayasuriya, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, Saiteja Mukkamala, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Harmeet Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan, Mohammad Mohsin, and Shubham Ranjane.
