New Delhi [India], February 11 (ANI): The Indian Air Force (IAF) will hold Exercise Vayu Shakti in Pokhran, Rajasthan, on February 27, showcasing its full combat strength along with glimpses of Operation Sindoor. Over 120 defence assets, including fighter jets, aircraft, and helicopters, will be displayed.
Briefing the media in Delhi, Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor said, “We are going to get glimpses of precise targeting. A target will be earmarked, aircraft will drop the weapons, and the target will be engaged.” He clarified that long-range missiles like BrahMos will not be used in the same profiles as during Operation Sindoor due to the proximity of spectators, but the effect on the ground will be visible. “For the first time, two new weapons will be showcased, and the number of indigenous weapons will be higher,” he added.
Providing details of the assets, Wing Commander AB Vasane said, “77 fighters, 43 helicopters, and 8 transport aircraft will take part. Fighter aircraft such as Rafale, Tejas, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29, Jaguar, and Mirage-2000; helicopters including Apache, MI-17, MI-17 V5, Chinook, LCH, and ALH; and transport aircraft like C-17, C-295, and C-130J will participate. Akash, Spyder, L-70, and Special Forces will provide combat support.”
He added that Indian Army units, including M-777, L-70, and Para SF troops, will also take part. The exercise will employ 277 weapons and 11,835 kg of explosives, with aircraft operating from Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Uttarlai, Jodhpur, Hindan, and Vadodara.
The objective of the exercise is to demonstrate the IAF’s capabilities and combat preparedness, instill confidence in citizens, and motivate youth to join the Air Force. Offensive and defensive capabilities, including day and night operations, will be highlighted, showcasing the ability to deliver weapons with long-range, precision, and conventional accuracy. (ANI)
