Kathmandu [Nepal], February 12 (ANI): India on Thursday handed over the third tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal, including more than 220 pickup vehicles and 50 trucks for the Nepali Army, to help ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming March 5 election.
The third tranche of assistance from the Government of India was ceremonially handed over by Ambassador Naveen Srivastava to Nepal’s Minister for Home Affairs, Om Prakash Aryal, at an event held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The vehicles were provided at the request of the Nepal government to support preparations for the upcoming elections. This follows two earlier deliveries on January 20 and January 29, 2026, with additional assistance expected in the coming days.
The latest tranche includes more than 270 vehicles, including 50 trucks designated for the Nepali Army, along with other supplies. The trucks were received by Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel from Ambassador Srivastava.
In his remarks, Home Minister Aryal thanked India for the timely and significant assistance. He also expressed appreciation for the comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, marked by trust, friendship, and shared democratic values.
“The Government of India, supporting the upcoming general election, handed over the third installment of support vehicles to the Government of Nepal. In the first handover, 61 vehicles were delivered; in the second, 254; in the third, 223; and for the Nepal Army, 50 vehicles were handed over. Other equipment that the Indian government will be providing to the Nepal government for the police has also arrived, while some shipments are on their way,” Ananda Kafle, spokesperson for Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs, told ANI.
“These vehicles will be further handed over to security agencies as well as to electoral bodies for the smooth conduct of the election in the coming days,” Kafle added.
The first two tranches of election-related assistance, comprising more than 310 vehicles and other supplies from India, were handed over to Nepal on January 20 and January 29, 2026. Additional deliveries are expected in batches over the coming days.
The ongoing cooperation reflects the multifaceted, multi-sector development partnership between the two countries and underscores the deep mutual trust and friendship between the people of India and Nepal. (ANI)
