MUNICH, Germany, February 15 (ANI): President Donald Trump intends to end the Russia-Ukraine war “once and for all,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday.
Rubio met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
“Met with Ukrainian President @ZelenskyyUa on Ukraine’s security and deepening defense and economic partnerships. President Trump wants a solution that ends the bloodshed once and for all,” Rubio wrote on X.
The meeting comes ahead of a trilateral meeting among Ukraine, Russia, and the United States scheduled to be held in Geneva on February 17–18.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said he briefed Rubio on the situation on the front lines and the impact of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the planned peace talks.
“During the meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, I briefed him on the situation at the front, Russian strikes, and the impact of attacks on Ukraine’s energy system. We discussed how to help Ukraine protect lives during the winter cold and strengthen our resilience. We also had a detailed discussion about the diplomatic process and trilateral meetings,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
“It is crucial that the talks planned in Geneva be productive, and I thank the United States for their constructive approach. We also addressed the sequencing of steps. It is important to make progress on security guarantees and economic recovery. I am grateful to the United States and to every American heart for the substantial support provided to Ukraine,” he added.
On Saturday, Zelenskyy also spoke with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about the upcoming Geneva meetings, saying Kyiv expects the discussions to be “truly productive.”
“I had a conversation with envoys of President Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, ahead of the trilateral meetings in Geneva. We count on the meetings being truly productive. Our negotiating team will present Ukraine’s position next week,” Zelenskyy wrote.
He added that he also discussed developments following earlier meetings in Abu Dhabi, though not all details could be shared publicly.
Earlier, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine held trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in January 2026.
According to Russian news agency TASS, the Russian delegation for the upcoming talks will be led by Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. (ANI)
