New Delhi, December 27 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has warned of legal action if Delhi Police fail to register an FIR over the alleged harassment of Christian women and children celebrating Christmas in Delhi’s Amritpuri area.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, along with Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha and party general secretary Adil Ahmed Khan, submitted a written complaint at Amar Colony Police Station on Saturday. The complaint relates to an incident on December 22 in which women and children wearing Santa Claus caps were allegedly abused, threatened, and prevented from celebrating Christmas near Garhi Market, close to the ISKCON temple.
According to the party, videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, drawing national and international attention. Bharadwaj alleged that despite the incident being a cognizable offence and the police visiting the spot, no FIR had been registered.
In a post on X tagging the Delhi Police Commissioner, Bharadwaj claimed that specific individuals visible in the video had been identified and named in the complaint. He warned that if the police fail to act, the party would approach the courts to seek registration of an FIR.
Bharadwaj accused the police of inaction despite widespread public outrage and said the incident had damaged India’s global image. He further alleged that similar incidents of vandalism and intimidation targeting Christmas celebrations occurred in different parts of the country.
The AAP leader demanded immediate police action against those involved, stating that failure to register complaints in such cases could encourage further incidents of communal intimidation. He reiterated that the party was prepared to pursue the matter legally, including approaching the Supreme Court if necessary.
