Abu Dhabi [UAE], March 26 (ANI): An Indian national was among two people killed after debris from a ballistic missile interception fell over Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Another Indian national was injured in the incident.
In a post on X, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said the fatalities occurred as part of the ongoing follow-up to a previously reported incident caused by falling debris after air defense systems successfully intercepted a ballistic missile.
The incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals of Pakistani and Indian nationality, while three others—of Emirati, Jordanian, and Indian nationality—sustained injuries ranging from serious to moderate.
Authorities urged the public to rely only on official sources for information and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified reports.
The fatal impact became clear after falling debris struck a busy road, killing two people and injuring three others. The casualties occurred on Sweihan Street following the activation of air defense systems to neutralize the incoming missile.
While the missile was successfully intercepted, debris fell over a populated area, causing damage and distress. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to assist victims and manage the damage to several vehicles.
The incident highlights the risks posed by falling debris during high-altitude interceptions, even when defense systems function as intended. Officials said further updates will be provided as the investigation continues and reiterated the importance of relying on verified information. (ANI)
