New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday emphasised the urgent need for the Indian Armed Forces to swiftly adapt to disruptive technologies, rethink legacy structures, and prioritise synergy among the three services to effectively address the challenges posed by the evolving nature of modern warfare.
Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural Annual Trident Lecture Series organised by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) to mark its Foundation Day at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment, General Chauhan underscored the importance of technological convergence and integrated operations to safeguard national security in a rapidly transforming strategic landscape.
The event brought together senior defence leadership, strategic thinkers, and scholars to deliberate on the theme ‘Dominating the Future Battlespace’. A highlight of the day was the formal release of the first General Bipin Rawat Paper on Manned-Unmanned Teaming, a tribute to India’s first CDS and his enduring legacy in shaping India’s joint operational philosophy and transformative defence thinking.
The August 2025 issue of Synergy, CENJOWS’ flagship journal, was also launched at the event. The issue features analytical articles and perspectives on emerging strategic trends and future warfare paradigms.
During the lecture series, the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff delivered a talk on ‘Urgency in Tri-Services Reforms’, outlining the critical timelines and structural steps required for deep-rooted institutional transformation within the armed forces.
Additionally, the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation and Training) presented a lecture on ‘Imbibing Indian Heritage Statecraft in Future Warfighting’, which explored how indigenous civilizational and strategic thought can influence modern military frameworks and enhance national defence planning.
The Annual Trident Lecture Series aims to serve as a strategic forum for critical reflection, foresight, and policy innovation, designed to address the evolving dynamics of warfare and the future of national defence.
