New Delhi [India], April 5 (ANI): The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Saturday strongly condemned the recently passed Waqf Amendments, describing them as a grave threat to Islamic values, Shariah, religious and cultural freedom, and the constitutional framework of India.
In a bold response, the AIMPLB announced a nationwide campaign to protest the amendments, beginning with a week-long initiative from one Friday to the next. The campaign will focus on countering misinformation and promoting peaceful resistance, the Board said in an official statement.
“The recent Waqf Amendments passed by Parliament are a severe assault on Islamic values, religion and Shariah, religious and cultural freedom, communal harmony, and the foundational structure of the Indian Constitution,” the statement read.
The AIMPLB also criticized certain political parties for backing what it referred to as the BJP’s “communal agenda,” accusing them of shedding their secular pretenses.
The Board vowed to lead a united movement involving all religious, community, and social organizations, pledging to continue their efforts until the amendments are repealed.
Legal, Peaceful, and Symbolic Protests Planned
Maulana Muhammad Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, General Secretary of AIMPLB, said that the Board would explore all legal and democratic routes to oppose the legislation.
“The Board will not only take the legal route to challenge these discriminatory and unjust amendments in the Supreme Court but will also employ peaceful protests, demonstrations, symbolic actions such as wearing black armbands, roundtable discussions, and press conferences,” he said.
In state capitals, AIMPLB said Muslim leaders would offer symbolic arrests, while district-level protests would culminate in memorandums being submitted to the President and the Union Home Minister through District Magistrates and Collectors.
“Save Waqf, Save the Constitution” Movement Launched
Under the banner “Save Waqf, Save the Constitution,” AIMPLB will raise awareness about the impact of the amendments on Waqf properties and citizens’ constitutional rights.
The campaign’s first phase includes:
- Roundtable discussions with citizens to counter misinformation.
- Interfaith meetings in Delhi with leaders from other religious groups and their Waqf representatives.
- Major protest programs in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Vijayawada, Malappuram, Patna, Ranchi, Malerkotla, and Lucknow.
- The launch event will be a grand public gathering at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.
The first phase will continue until Eid al-Adha, after which the next phase will be announced.
Call for Unity and Peace
Maulana Mujaddidi urged the Muslim community, especially the youth, to remain calm and avoid actions that could be exploited by divisive forces.
“Remain patient, composed and firm in your stance. Do not act on emotion. Let this campaign be organized and peaceful, and cooperate strictly with the Board’s guidance,” he said.
The AIMPLB reaffirmed its commitment to uphold justice and constitutional rights for all, promising not to shy away from sacrifices needed to protect Waqf institutions and religious freedoms. (ANI)
