Reinforcing bipartisan consensus on national security, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid emphasized on Monday that Parliament remains the most appropriate platform to deliberate on critical matters like Operation Sindoor.
Speaking during the ongoing debate in Parliament, Khurshid, who was part of an international outreach delegation related to the operation, said, “The delegation visited various nations to highlight India’s security concerns before strong and friendly allies. All parties are united when it comes to the national security of the nation. To understand the full scope and reality, this discussion in Parliament is essential.”
He added, “When parties with differing ideologies engage in dialogue, we move toward meaningful conclusions. There is no better place than Parliament for such discussions.”
Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened the debate in the Lok Sabha, describing Operation Sindoor as a “historic” military action and paying tribute to the armed forces. “Parliament stands ready to deliberate on Operation Sindoor. On behalf of the House, I express deep gratitude to our brave jawans, who are always ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for the nation,” Singh said.
Joining the debate, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar clarified key aspects of India’s international engagements during the operation. “I would like to inform the House that on May 9, U.S. Vice President JD Vance called the Prime Minister to warn of an imminent large-scale Pakistani attack. The Prime Minister made it clear that any such aggression would be met with an appropriate response,” he stated.
Dr. Jaishankar further stressed, “At no point during our conversations with the United States was trade linked to the situation. Additionally, there was no call between the Prime Minister and President Trump from April 22—when Trump expressed condolences—until June 17, when he called the Prime Minister in Canada to explain his inability to meet.”
The multi-party discussion marks a significant moment of political unity amid a critical phase in India’s defense and foreign policy landscape. (ANI)
