
Brasilia [Brazil], June 1 (ANI): Congress MP and all-party delegation leader Shashi Tharoor arrived in Brasilia on Sunday, where he and his team were warmly welcomed. The delegation was received at the airport by Sandeep Kumar Kujur, Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Brazil.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a member of the delegation, shared on X, “Just landed in Brasilia, Brazil in the early hours of Sunday as part of Indian parliamentary delegation led by Shashi Tharoor to Americas!”
Tharoor noted, “Arrived in Brasilia near 1 AM, to a warm welcome from our Embassy, currently headed by a charge d’affaires since the Ambassador-designate only arrives after our departure.”
Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya also expressed enthusiasm for the visit, stating on X, “After a day full of travel, our delegation has reached Brasilia, Brazil midnight now. The last week has been hectic but greatly productive. Looking forward to the next two days of work here.”
The delegation’s visit to Brazil, scheduled for June 1-2, is part of India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the global fight against terrorism, especially under Operation Sindoor and India’s sustained campaign against cross-border terrorism, according to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Brazil.
Led by Shashi Tharoor, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, the nine-member delegation includes Members of Parliament from diverse political parties, reflecting India’s vibrant democratic character. Members include Sarfaraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya, and Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
During their visit, the delegation is set to meet senior Brazilian officials, such as Ambassador Celso Amorim, Chief Advisor of the Special Advisory Office of the President; Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, Secretary General of Foreign Affairs; and leaders of the India-Brazil Friendship Front in the Federal Senate, including Senator Nelson Trad and Federal Deputy Filipe Barros, President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and National Defense.
These meetings will offer an opportunity for the Indian delegation to update Brazilian counterparts on recent developments in India, particularly following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation will reaffirm India’s strong national consensus and resolute stand against terrorism in all forms, underscoring the country’s policy of zero tolerance toward cross-border terrorism.
