Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 23 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday conducted a security review at Baisaran meadow, the site of Tuesday’s brutal terror attack that claimed the lives of innocent tourists in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Arriving by helicopter, Shah took an aerial survey before landing at the now-tranquil yet scarred meadow, a popular destination known for its breathtaking views. He was seen walking the site under high security and receiving an on-ground briefing from senior security and administration officials about ongoing operations and the current status of the investigation.
The visit underscores the gravity of the attack, which has been called one of the most severe in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. While the official number of casualties is yet to be confirmed by the government, reports suggest significant loss of life and injuries.
Earlier in the day, Shah paid his respects to the victims during an emotional tribute at the Police Control Room in Srinagar. He met with grieving families and reiterated the government’s unyielding stance against terrorism.
Taking to X, he posted:
“With a heavy heart, paid last respects to the deceased of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared.”
Simultaneously, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-rank officer, reached the Baisaran attack site. The NIA is expected to play a crucial role in the probe alongside Jammu and Kashmir Police. Their mandate includes conducting a detailed forensic assessment, collecting vital evidence, and assisting in identifying those behind the attack.
Sources suggest that Lashkar-e-Taiba’s proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF), has claimed responsibility for the deadly assault. The NIA is likely to officially take over the case following formal orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
With the Kashmir Valley on high alert and search operations ongoing, the government’s actions, both in terms of investigation and ensuring public reassurance, are being closely watched across the nation. (ANI)
