New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): President of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, will undertake a state visit to India from May 1 to 4 at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Wednesday.
This visit will be President Lourenço’s first-ever bilateral state visit to India and marks the first visit by an Angolan head of state to the country in 38 years. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes several cabinet ministers, senior government officials, prominent business leaders, and media representatives.
The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Angola, a milestone both nations are commemorating this year.
President Lourenço will receive a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 3. He will then hold official discussions with President Murmu, who will also host a state banquet in his honor. In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage in delegation-level talks with the Angolan President and host a luncheon in his honor.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, further strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
On May 4, President Lourenço will participate in a business forum in New Delhi, aimed at deepening investment and trade connections between India and Angola.
India and Angola share warm and historically friendly relations, anchored by a robust energy partnership. Bilateral trade has witnessed significant growth, reaching USD 4.192 billion during the fiscal year 2023–2024.
The MEA highlighted that areas such as development partnership, capacity-building cooperation, and defense collaboration have also expanded in recent years. Furthermore, both countries have consistently supported each other’s candidatures at various multilateral platforms, including within the United Nations.
