
Jakarta [Indonesia], May 28 (ANI): The ASEAN Secretary-General, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, commended the Indian Parliament’s proactive engagement in fostering inter-parliamentary dialogue and enhancing ASEAN-India cooperation during a meeting with an all-party parliamentary delegation from India, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha. The meeting took place at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to an official post by ASEAN on X, Dr. Hourn praised India’s active participation as an observer in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and underscored the importance of aligning legislative and executive efforts in advancing ASEAN’s regional priorities.
“Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, today received a courtesy call from a delegation of Indian Parliamentarians at the ASEAN Headquarters. During the meeting, SG Dr. Kao commended the Indian Parliament’s active engagement in promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue and ASEAN-India cooperation,” the post stated.
The meeting also involved discussions on pressing global concerns, including transnational crime, terrorism, and violent extremism. Both sides shared perspectives on the necessity of collaborative approaches to counter such threats, reaffirming ASEAN’s commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with India.
In continuation of their diplomatic mission, the Indian parliamentary delegation also met with Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arief Havas Oegroseno, earlier in the day. The delegation includes Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Brij Lala (BJP), John Brittas (CPI-M), Pradan Baruah (BJP), Hemang Joshi (BJP), Salman Khurshid, and Mohan Kumar.
As part of their outreach, the delegation also met with Muhammad Husein Fadlulloh, Vice Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, and Muhammad Rofiqi, Chairperson of the Indonesia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group. During the meeting, the Indian side emphasized its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, which was met with strong support from the Indonesian officials.
In a post shared by the Indian Embassy in Indonesia, it was noted that the Indonesian side condemned terrorism and emphasized dialogue as the means for conflict resolution, aligning with India’s stance that terrorism is against humanity.
The visit to Indonesia follows earlier stops in Japan, South Korea, and Singapore as part of India’s international outreach under Operation Sindoor, aimed at building global consensus and support against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. (ANI)
