New Delhi [India], August 11 (ANI): The Chief of the Australian Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, met with India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, on Monday to discuss enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and deepening military-to-military engagement, according to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI). He was also briefed on Operation Sindoor and India’s overall security perspective.
In a post on X, ADG PI said the talks centred on reinforcing the shared commitment to regional stability and global peace. “Lieutenant General Simon Stuart also engaged in high-level discussions with senior military leaders wherein he was briefed on Operation Sindoor and India’s security perspective,” the statement read.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists. The Indian Armed Forces also repelled Pakistani retaliation and struck its airbases.
Lt Gen Stuart, who is visiting India from August 10 to 14, received a ceremonial guard of honour earlier on Monday in the national capital. He shares a professional history with Gen Dwivedi, having trained together at the United States Army War College in 2015 — a bond that has matured alongside their careers.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that in recent years, India-Australia ties have experienced transformational growth, with exponential progress in existing frameworks and expansion into new areas of cooperation at both bilateral and global levels.
The visit marks a reunion of two military leaders whose shared past strengthens the foundation of India-Australia defence relations. (ANI)
