Manama [Bahrain], March 8 (ANI): Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior on Sunday claimed that Iran attacked civilian infrastructure after a drone strike caused damage to a water desalination plant.
In a post on X, the ministry said, “Iranian aggression indiscriminately attacked civilian targets and caused material damage to a water desalination plant following a drone attack.”
The allegation comes as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian clarified that his earlier remarks regarding regional military operations had been “misinterpreted by the enemy that seeks to sow division with neighbours,” according to state media reports cited by The Times of Israel.
The clarification follows a period of diplomatic confusion after earlier comments suggested a possible suspension of military actions against Gulf nations even as regional strikes continued.
Addressing the situation, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of maintaining relations with neighboring countries.
“It has repeatedly been said we are brothers and must have good relations with neighbours,” he said.
However, the Iranian President maintained that Tehran’s actions were defensive in nature, stating that Iran was “forced to retaliate to attacks” while stressing that this did not reflect hostility toward neighboring nations or an intention to “upset their people.”
In a televised address on Saturday, Pezeshkian had also attempted to strike a conciliatory tone, saying that Iran’s leadership council had decided not to attack neighboring countries unless provoked.
“I apologise to the neighbouring countries. We have no intention of invading other countries,” he said, adding that missile launches would not occur unless attacks against Iran originated from those specific nations.
Despite the message directed toward regional neighbors, the Iranian President rejected calls for surrender as the U.S.-Israel military campaign intensified.
“They will take their dreams of us surrendering unconditionally to the grave,” Pezeshkian said.
The statement appeared to respond directly to comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently wrote on Truth Social that there would be “no deal with Iran except unconditional surrender.”
Trump said negotiations would only consider an agreement once Iran’s current leadership yields and is replaced by what he described as “great & acceptable leader(s).”
In the same post, Trump also suggested rebuilding the country under the slogan “Make Iran Great Again (MIGA)” and previously indicated a desire to be personally involved in selecting Iran’s next Supreme Leader following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint U.S.-Israel strike, according to Axios.
