Islamabad [Pakistan], July 24 (ANI): Families of missing Baloch persons have continued their sit-in protest in Islamabad for the eighth consecutive day, demanding the recovery of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders and an end to enforced disappearances in Balochistan, according to The Balochistan Post (TBP).
Despite continuous rainfall and worsening weather conditions, the demonstrators—including women, children, and the elderly—remain committed to their peaceful protest. Authorities, however, have not permitted the establishment of a proper protest camp in front of the National Press Club, exposing the protestors to the elements and significant hardship.
The sit-in is being held near the National Press Club, where Islamabad police have blocked key roads in the area. Additional surrounding routes have also been closed off, further restricting public access and visibility, TBP reports.
The BYC alleges that state authorities are deliberately deploying buses to obstruct the view of the protest, effectively concealing it from the public. The Committee claims this is an intentional attempt to prevent Islamabad residents from witnessing their peaceful call for justice.
In a statement, the BYC condemned the government’s response, describing it as an act of “fear, silence, and the oppression of marginalised voices.” The group denounced what they called blatant human rights violations and appealed for nationwide attention.
“We call upon all citizens, journalists, human rights advocates, and organisations to support the families gathering in the capital in their search for justice,” the BYC stated.
This sit-in is part of a wider campaign aimed at drawing attention to the issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan—a long-standing and deeply sensitive human rights concern. Despite repeated promises from authorities, little progress has been made in resolving the cases. Many families have spent years seeking answers about the fate of their missing loved ones, the TBP report highlights.
