Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 25 (ANI): Two security personnel sustained injuries in a fierce gun battle with terrorists in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, according to local police.
The encounter broke out in the Kulnar Ajas area after security forces launched a joint search operation based on specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of terrorists. The operation was conducted by personnel from the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “On 25 Apr 2025, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued.”
Details regarding the condition of the injured personnel or the number of terrorists involved are awaited as the operation remains ongoing.
This fresh encounter follows a deadly clash in Udhampur district on Thursday, where an Army jawan succumbed to injuries sustained during a similar gunfight. “Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was established, and a fierce firefight ensued. One of our Bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed,” police confirmed.
Amid the escalating violence in the region, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is scheduled to visit Srinagar today to assess the overall security situation, particularly in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The April 22 attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, which targeted tourists, resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen and left several others injured. The brazen attack triggered a strong diplomatic and security response from the Indian government.
In response, New Delhi ordered the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspended the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, gave them 48 hours to leave India, and reduced the number of officials at the Pakistani and Indian High Commissions to 30 each.
The attacks have sparked a wave of nationwide protests demanding stricter actions against Pakistan and heightened security measures across Jammu and Kashmir.
