Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 2 (ANI): A case has been registered following the alleged harassment of a woman by an unidentified man near Eco World in the Marathahalli area of Bengaluru, Karnataka, late Wednesday night, April 30.
According to Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivakumar, the incident occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. while the complainant was walking near the Eco World gate. An unknown individual approached her from behind on a two-wheeler and struck her with his hand before fleeing the scene.
In response to the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 74 (assault on a woman) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.
In a separate incident on April 29, in the Dakshina Kannada district of Mangaluru, Karnataka, police registered a case against a city-based dietician for allegedly making anti-national and anti-Hindu remarks on social media.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal addressed the media on Tuesday, stating that a case had been filed against a woman dietician identified as Atifa, following a social media post containing objectionable comments that went viral.
“Two days ago, a post by the woman gained widespread attention in Mangaluru. We took prompt action, contacted the hospital where she was employed, and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” said the Police Commissioner.
He added that the woman had been summoned for questioning, and the mobile phone used to publish the post was seized. A forensic analysis of the device is currently in progress, and further legal action will be determined based on the findings.
This case follows another similar incident in the city, in which a Facebook user operating under the name ‘Nichchu Mangaluru’ was booked for allegedly justifying the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
