By Rajan George
Those that are drowned deep
beneath their ideological realm
can find no escape unless
they wish and move ahead for change.
There are those that hold too close
to their values they espouse
for the good of others, and in turn
serve their own good with noble intent.
But there are those who chase dreams
to gain their ends, suppressing others,
totally blind to the hardships they cause,
sticking to their demands at any cost.
Avarice, greed, and corrupt motives
drive their mission till they find
satiation, preying on their own folks,
and fall victims to their selfish dreams.
It matters not how much you’ve served
or amassed in wealth or power;
if it has caused harm to a fellow man,
his tears will never dry up on your prosperity.
No success without a noble intent
will endure the test of time; they are like
larvae of flies, which will take wings
and fly away, leaving you alone to grieve.
Prudence calls for discretion, to make your choice
wisely, lest you grieve at the end of days, when
you’ve to exit the world as your time draws near,
with great contentment and rich reward.
Material gains will never cross the grave;
all your efforts toward greatness are futile.
Fame, wealth, or dreams will never stick—
you’ll leave them all behind, so why the travail?
Strive to be virtuous, work for others’ good;
doing so, you will serve yourself well.
When you bid goodbye, the virtues will
follow you beyond the grave—you’ve lived well!
