Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), May 3 (ANI): The main accused in an alleged rape and blackmail case sustained a bullet injury to his leg after attempting to snatch a police pistol while in custody, police officials confirmed on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Farhan, was being escorted by police to a residence in Bilkisganj for evidence collection related to the ongoing investigation. According to officials, during the journey, Farhan requested a stop near the Ratibad area, claiming he needed to use the toilet. It was then that he allegedly tried to grab a pistol from the sub-inspector accompanying him.
Amid the ensuing struggle, the firearm discharged and struck Farhan in the leg. He was immediately taken to Hamidia Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 1, Priyanka Shukla, provided details of the case, stating, “A case was registered at Ashoka Garden police station under Sections 64 and 61 of the BNS, Sections 3 and 5 of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, and relevant sections of the IT Act. During interrogation, Farhan revealed he had been residing with a co-accused, Abrar, in Bilkisganj. A police team was taking him to collect evidence when the escape attempt occurred.”
The case involves disturbing allegations of a blackmail ring targeting female students at a private college. According to police, the accused—former students of the same institution—lured victims into romantic relationships, then sexually assaulted them. They allegedly filmed the acts and used the recordings to blackmail the victims, coercing them to introduce other classmates.
Five victims have come forward with formal complaints, prompting the registration of multiple FIRs. So far, five suspects have been arrested, including the primary accused Farhan. Special Investigation Teams (SITs) have been formed to probe the matter further.
The police investigation is ongoing.
