Bhubaneswar [Odisha], September 18 (ANI): Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Vice President Prasanna Acharya on Thursday criticised the Odisha government for its handling of key state issues, citing acute fertiliser shortages, deteriorating law and order, and erosion of Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) autonomy.
Speaking to ANI, Acharya highlighted the hardships faced by farmers due to limited fertiliser availability. “There are long queues of farmers at PACs, cooperative societies, and open markets, but they are not able to get the required amount of fertilisers,” he said.
The BJD leader also raised concerns over the rising cases of atrocities against women, describing the state’s law and order situation as “precarious.” He added that the government had failed to manage security during the recent Rath Yatra in Puri, which resulted in injuries and fatalities.
Acharya further accused the government of undermining PRI autonomy through an executive order that transfers authority and financial powers from elected chairpersons to Block Development Officers (BDOs) and other officials. “We feel that this is an attack on the independence of the panchayat system and against the concept of decentralisation of power,” he said.
The BJD leader announced that the party would raise these issues in the upcoming Assembly session. Commenting on the Congress party’s no-confidence motion against the BJP government in Odisha, Acharya clarified that the decision was taken independently by Congress, saying, “We are an independent provincial party. We will cross the bridge when it comes.” (ANI)
