New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI):
Tragedy struck the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Wednesday as a student was found dead in his hostel room, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to police officials, a distress call was received at Kishangarh Police Station after fellow students reported that the individual had not opened his door or responded for an extended period. Upon arrival at the hostel on the IIT Delhi campus, authorities found the door locked from the inside. Fire department personnel were called in and forcibly opened the room.
Inside, the male student was discovered lying unconscious on the bed. IIT medical staff responded and declared him dead at the scene.
Initial inquiry revealed that the deceased was a second-year student enrolled in the Biomechanical Engineering program. As per preliminary information, he was last seen on Monday evening after returning to his room post-dinner. When he was neither seen nor heard from on Tuesday, concern grew among fellow students, prompting them to alert campus security, who in turn contacted the police.
Authorities noted that there were no visible external injuries on the body. However, traces of vomit were found on the floor, suggesting the possibility of internal distress.
The Delhi Police’s Crime Team and Forensic Unit were summoned for a thorough on-site examination. After completing necessary legal procedures, the body was transferred to the Safdarjung Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. (ANI)
