
Indore, April 17: A Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, received a hoax bomb threat via email on Thursday morning, prompting a swift response from local authorities. According to police, the email claimed that remote control explosive devices had been planted in the bank and could detonate at any time.
The email, sent from an address [email protected], was received around 6:57 am. The message led the bank’s management to immediately notify the police, which triggered a joint operation with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS).
The police, along with the bomb squad, conducted a thorough search of the bank but found no suspicious items or materials. Additionally, CCTV footage was reviewed, but no evidence of any threat or suspicious activity was found.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Addl. DCP, Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that the email sender claimed to be a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). The police are currently verifying whether the email account is legitimate. An investigation is underway based on technical evidence, and further action will be determined as more facts emerge.
Authorities also noted that similar hoax bomb threats have been received in the past concerning various locations such as airports, IIT colleges, and schools.
The police assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and continuing their investigation to ensure safety and security.
