New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) was convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, concluding this afternoon. Alongside the CCS meeting, two other important committee discussions took place—the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
A cabinet briefing has been scheduled for 3:00 PM today.
The second CCS meeting focused on enhancing security preparedness in response to the Pahalgam incident. During the meeting, the CCS had been briefed in detail on the April 8 attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen lost their lives. The meeting condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms and expressed condolences to the victims’ families while wishing for the swift recovery of the injured.
The cross-border linkages involved in the terrorist attack were discussed at length, noting that the attack occurred following the successful conduct of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which marked a significant step toward the region’s progress in economic development.
In a strong move, the government announced a series of measures, including holding the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, sending a stern message to Pakistan regarding its support for cross-border terrorism.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi chaired a significant meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs. According to sources, PM Modi expressed complete confidence in the Indian Armed Forces, affirming their operational freedom to determine the mode, targets, and timing of any potential response.
Also present at the meeting were Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.
