
New Delhi [India], October 12 (ANI): Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand arrived in Delhi on Sunday for an official visit, during which she is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
Anand’s visit, spanning October 12 to 17, will cover India, Singapore, and China as part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with key regional partners. In Delhi, discussions will focus on a framework for strategic cooperation encompassing trade diversification, energy transition, and security issues. Anand will also travel to Mumbai to engage with Canadian and Indian businesses to promote investment, job creation, and economic opportunities.
In Singapore, she is set to meet Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Canada-Singapore diplomatic relations. Talks will emphasise progress toward a free trade agreement and the importance of concluding negotiations by 2026.
In China, Anand will engage with Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, marking 55 years of diplomatic ties between Canada and China.
Anand highlighted the importance of the visit, stating, “For Canada to be strong at home, we need strong, stable partnerships abroad. I am building bridges and increasing cooperation with India, Singapore, and China. In line with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, I will be working to advance efforts to position Canada as a trusted, reliable partner of choice for Indo-Pacific countries and their economies.” (ANI)
