Washington, D.C. [US], July 27 (ANI): FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino vowed to uncover the “truth” in a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), declaring, “We cannot run a Republic like this.”
In his post on Saturday, Bongino said that both he and FBI Director Kash Patel are committed to “stamping out public corruption and the political weaponization of both law enforcement and intelligence operations.”
“But what I have learned in the course of our properly predicated and necessary investigations into these aforementioned matters has shocked me down to my core. We cannot run a Republic like this. I’ll never be the same after learning what I’ve learned,” he wrote. Bongino did not specify what findings he was referring to.
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and podcaster, was recently at the center of controversy regarding files related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, The Hill reported. Earlier this month, the FBI and the Department of Justice stated in a joint, unsigned memo that Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while in prison awaiting trial, and that he did not maintain a so-called “client list.”
Bongino reportedly expressed deep frustration with the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein case and has clashed with Attorney General Pam Bondi. According to The Hill, he has even considered resigning over the issue.
CNN previously reported that during a May briefing with former President Donald Trump, Bondi informed him that his name appeared in documents related to the Epstein case. The meeting, which also included Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, was described by two White House officials as a “routine briefing” that reviewed the DOJ’s findings. They emphasized that Trump’s name appearing in the files was not the primary focus.
Bondi also told Trump that investigators found names of several high-profile individuals but uncovered no evidence of a client list or anything that contradicted the official conclusion that Epstein died by suicide, the officials said. (ANI)
