Singapore City [Singapore], June 1 (ANI): India’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, participated in the Chiefs of Defence Round Table at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, where global military leaders convened to address pressing security challenges and the future of warfare.
Attendees included senior defence officials from Australia, the European Union, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The discussions centered on strategic decision-making, innovative defence solutions, and strengthening cooperation to ensure global and regional stability.
Speaking on the theme “Defence Innovation Solutions for Future Challenges,” General Chauhan highlighted the profound impact of technological advancements on the battlefield. He underscored that the democratization of technology has enabled non-state actors to play destabilizing roles, fueling proxy conflicts across regions.
The CDS identified four defining trends in future warfare: the proliferation of sensors across all domains, the emergence of long-range hypersonic and precision-guided weapons, manned-unmanned teaming with autonomous systems, and the “intelligentisation” of warfare powered by artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), large language models (LLMs), and quantum technologies.
General Chauhan also emphasized India’s evolving approach to capability development. He stressed the importance of adaptability, innovation, and self-reliance through homegrown solutions, citing India’s collaborative defence manufacturing ecosystem and its ‘Tactics-led Modernisation’ strategy, which tailors systems to operational realities and domestic requirements.
He further noted that India’s transformation would involve doctrinal changes, shifts in organizational culture, and an investment in human capital, all shaped by the country’s unique geography, experiences, and aspirations. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to responsible innovation and the pursuit of global peace.
Praising the Shangri-La Dialogue, General Chauhan described it as a vital forum for fostering international cooperation and dialogue. The summit, considered Asia’s premier defence and security event, brings together leaders from 40 countries to address Indo-Pacific security challenges, enhance defence collaboration, and strengthen strategic partnerships in the region.
