Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned Russia for violating the Easter ceasefire, announced by President Vladimir Putin, with 387 shelling incidents and 19 assaults. Despite Russia’s 30-hour truce, Zelenskyy reported ongoing attacks, including shelling and drone strikes across various frontline sectors in Donetsk, Starobilsk, and Zaporizhzhia.
In his post on X, Zelenskyy detailed the continued aggression, with 59 cases of shelling and five assaults on Ukrainian forces. He noted that despite Russia’s declared truce, Ukrainian forces faced heavy shelling and drone attacks, especially in the Kursk region, and the situation remained dire. He emphasized that while Russia seeks to create an illusion of a ceasefire, Ukraine would continue to respond according to the situation on the ground.
Zelenskyy further reiterated that Russia’s commitment to peace was untrustworthy, highlighting ongoing offensive operations. He also pointed out that Russia had rejected Ukraine’s proposal for a full 30-day ceasefire, underscoring that a mere 30-hour truce was insufficient to build genuine confidence for peace.
This ceasefire is the second announced since the conflict began in 2022, with the first attempt during Orthodox Christmas in January 2023 failing due to disagreements between the two sides.
