Tehran [Iran], April 11 (ANI): Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei on Saturday said that the ceasefire in Lebanon is part of the agreement in ongoing talks with the United States, according to Iranian state media outlet Press TV.
Press TV also reported that the statement was confirmed by the Pakistani side and that the Iranian delegation is in contact with Hezbollah to take necessary decisions.
The development comes as US Vice President JD Vance holds high-level discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a statement from the White House. The talks are part of broader diplomatic engagement underway in Islamabad.
The Pakistani capital has taken center stage as it hosts high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran. Delegations from both countries have arrived to participate in the discussions, with the Serena Hotel serving as the primary venue.
Visuals from the site showed tight security and heightened activity as international delegations convened for the talks.
The US delegation includes JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, while the Pakistani side includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. Further details on participants are yet to be released by the White House.
The arrival of these high-level officials follows what Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described as “make or break” negotiations aimed at stabilizing a fragile ceasefire and addressing regional security concerns.
On Saturday morning, the Iranian delegation departed its residence for the Prime Minister’s Office to begin formal discussions, following a week of global anticipation after the ceasefire announcement on April 8.
The Iranian team, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, arrived in Islamabad after midnight under heightened security. Reports indicate that the aircraft was escorted through Pakistani airspace by AWACS, electronic warfare aircraft, and fighter jets.
According to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the window for these discussions is limited to 15 days. The coming days are expected to determine whether the ceasefire evolves into a lasting diplomatic resolution or gives way to renewed tensions.
Earlier on Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said the United States must adhere to its commitments under the two-week ceasefire agreement to halt hostilities in West Asia, asserting that Lebanon remains an integral part of the deal.
According to Press TV, Araghchi made the remarks during a phone conversation with Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani, in which he was briefed on the latest developments in the country. (ANI)
