Bhojpur (Bihar) [India], July 22 (ANI): Two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Chandan Mishra were injured in an encounter with the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and Bhojpur Police on Tuesday, officials said.
The accused, identified as Balwant Kumar Singh and Ravi Ranjan Kumar Singh, were apprehended by police after the exchange of fire and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Both have reportedly confessed to their role in the high-profile murder case.
Police also recovered two pistols and a magazine from their possession.
Earlier on Sunday, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikey K. Sharma announced that four of the accused in the case were arrested in Kolkata with assistance from the Kolkata Police and STF. The four, including the main shooter Tausif, were apprehended while hiding in the city.
The murder occurred on July 17, when unidentified gunmen shot and killed Chandan Mishra — a prisoner out on parole for medical treatment — inside Paras Hospital in Patna. According to the police, Mishra, who had multiple murder cases against him, was likely targeted by a rival gang.
“On July 17, Chandan Mishra was shot dead in the hospital. The shooters fled to different places after committing the crime. Raids were conducted by the Patna Police at various locations, and many people were questioned. The main shooter, Tausif, was arrested in Kolkata thanks to the commendable support of Kolkata Police and STF,” SSP Sharma said.
He added, “Along with Tausif, three others — Nishu Khan, Harsh, and Bheem — were also arrested. Tausif has previous cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and for attempt to murder. Nishu Khan also has extortion and Arms Act cases pending.”
Four additional suspects remain at large, and police said efforts are ongoing to track them down.
Chandan Mishra, described by police as a known criminal with a long history of serious charges, was being treated at the hospital when gunmen entered and opened fire, killing him. Investigators believe the shooting was orchestrated as part of an ongoing gang rivalry.
