Dhamtari (Chhattisgarh) [India], April 27 (ANI): The District Reserve Guard (DRG) recovered a large cache of explosives and Naxal-related items from the Salhebhat forest in Chhattisgarh, according to officials. The recovered items include Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), pipe bombs, cooker bombs, tiffin bombs, and other types of IEDs. These were found within the jurisdiction of Khallari police station in Mahasamund district.
The discovery comes amid heightened security operations in the state, following separate incidents of IED blasts in Bijapur district on April 24 and April 26. Two security personnel sustained minor injuries due to these blasts, one of whom, an STF jawan, suffered a sprained ankle from the blast impact. A DRG jawan was also injured in the second explosion. Both are in stable condition and are receiving medical treatment.
Security forces have been engaged in a large-scale operation targeting Naxal groups in Bijapur, an area known for Naxal insurgency. The operation, now in its fourth day, has mobilized around 10,000 security personnel, including forces from Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Telangana. The forces are attempting to cordon off the dense forested area and Karegutta hill, believed to be a hideout for top Naxal leaders.
Authorities are targeting key Naxal groups, including the CPI (Maoists) PLGA Battalion-1 and the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, in a bid to dismantle their military and strategic capabilities. Early phases of the operation have resulted in the recovery of bodies of three slain Naxals along with weapons. Extensive searches continue as authorities believe more Naxals could have been killed or injured.
The ongoing anti-Naxal operation is described as crucial, with the central and state governments working together to neutralize the threat posed by these insurgent groups. Since December 2023, the security forces have killed 365 Naxal cadres, arrested 1,382, and facilitated the surrender of 2,306 cadres as part of a rehabilitation effort.
In 2025 alone, 144 Naxals have been neutralized, 367 arrested, and 476 have surrendered. (ANI)
