
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), April 12 (ANI): Tensions flared in Khantari village in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, when clashes broke out between villagers and the police. The confrontation occurred after the police arrived in the village with an alleged order to remove a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, leading to stone pelting by the villagers.
In response, police carried out a lathi charge to control the situation, escalating tensions in the area. BJP MLA Yogesh Shukla arrived at the scene to mediate and facilitate a dialogue between the villagers and authorities.
BJP MLA Yogesh Shukla’s Statement:
MLA Shukla explained that the statue was placed without proper permission and clarified that it would be restored following legal procedures. He emphasized that the statue will be kept, but systems must be followed:
“This is a matter of Ambedkar’s statue, and we want to resolve this peacefully. The statue was placed without permission, and the Supreme Court has issued an order. It will be restored legally. We must respect the wishes of the villagers, but the law must also be upheld.”
Upcoming Ambedkar Jayanti Celebrations:
In a related development, on the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti, which falls on April 14, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the cleaning of statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and other national heroes in parks, monuments, and squares across the state. Public representatives, officers, and citizens will participate in this cleaning process. Additionally, various district-level events will be organized to honor Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, with garlanding of statues and state celebrations.
The situation in Khantari village remains tense as authorities continue to manage the aftermath of the clashes.
