Hyderabad, April 17: Leaders of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee staged a protest outside the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) office in Hyderabad on Thursday, opposing the chargesheet filed by the agency against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case.
Speaking to ANI, Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar accused the BJP of conspiring to damage the image of Rahul Gandhi, citing his rise as a “young leader.” He argued that the Gandhi family, which held power for a long period, had not engaged in fraudulent activities, unlike the alleged actions of Prime Minister Modi, who, according to Prabhakar, was “giving the country’s properties to Adani and Ambani.” He further claimed that the BJP was trying to weaken the Congress through a political conspiracy, but insisted that the people of India supported the Gandhi family.
Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao also weighed in, asserting that Congress would come to power in the 2029 elections. He alleged that the BJP was using the charges against the Gandhi family as a strategy to weaken Congress’ chances. “The BJP knows that if they want to succeed in the upcoming 2029 Parliament elections, they must spoil the image of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi,” Krishna Rao said.
He also highlighted the sacrifices made by the Gandhi family for the country, noting that both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had given their lives in service to the nation. He pointed out that despite having the opportunity to become the Prime Minister, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had supported Manmohan Singh, an economist, for the post to strengthen the country.
Earlier this week, the Enforcement Directorate filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and others in the alleged National Herald case. The Congress party has strongly protested the move, labeling it as politically motivated.
