Washington [US], Mar 20 (ANI): Coronavirus could have been stopped at Wuhan, at its place of origin, saidĀ USĀ President Donald Trump amid concerns that countries which are part of ChinaĀ ās flagship initiative āOne Belt One Roadā, are worst affected by the virus.
Trump has ramped up his targeting of the Chinese government for the spread of the virus in most parts of the world and has claimed over 10,500. This is a significant change from Trumpās earlier stance where he has supported Chinese President Xi Jinpingās handling of the outbreak. āThank you all for being here and we continue our relentless effort to defeat the Chinese virus,ā Trump said at his combative appearance before reporters at the White House, Washington Post reported.
āIt could have stopped from where it has come fromāChina. The whole world is suffering. I called for a ban from people coming in from ChinaĀ ,ā he added. Coronavirus which first emerged in Wuhan city of ChinaĀ has spread to the whole world. The epicenter has now shifted from ChinaĀ to Europe, where the death toll in Italy surpassed that of China. Trump is of the view ChinaĀ is responsible for an outburst of the coronavirus. Notably, Italy and Iran, who have close ties with ChinaĀ and are part of its flagship initiative āOne Belt One Road, are worst affected by the virus. The countries are paying a hefty price for their participation in ChinaĀ ās flagship initiative āOne Belt One Roadā, as evident from the two countries having had reported the second and third highest cases and fatalities from the deadly virus despite the geographic distance from the epicenter of the outbreak. The Chinese workers stationed in these countries might be a reason for the exponential rise in the coronavirusĀ cases.
The country allows its workers to travel freely in Italy and Iran which led to the outbreak in the disease. According to Fox Newsā, āThe Fiveā co-host Jesse Watters, ChinaĀ ās lack of transparency and cover-up attempts surrounding the outbreak, which reports indicate began as early as this past November. āThe first case of coronavirusĀ surfaced in mid-November, thatās four months ago. And when the scientists identified the virus, the Chinese government told them to destroy the samples and they gaged the scientists and told them to lie about it,ā he said.
Once the virus was already discovered, the Chinese government allowed thousands of citizens to fly all over the country and the world, Watters explained, emphasizing that Beijing had ādragged its feet in releasing data to the rest of the worldā on their medical findings. Writing for the American online magazine The Federalist, Helen Raleigh said: Coronavirus-hit countries of Italy and Iran are paying a hefty price for their participation in Chinaās flagship initiative āOne Belt One Roadā, as evident from the two countries having had reported the second and third highest cases and fatalities from the deadly virus despite the geographic distance from the epicenter of the outbreak.
China urges US to stop virus smears
BEIJING [ChinaĀ ], Mar 20 (Xinhua/ANI) ā ChinaĀ on Friday urged the United StatesĀ to stop smearing the Communist Party of ChinaĀ (CPC) and Chinese media, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said Friday. āChinaĀ hopes the United StatesĀ will seriously reflect on itself and eliminate its political virus of ideological prejudice,ā Geng told a press briefing in response to U.S. allegation that the measures imposed upon the two countriesā media are not reciprocal, reported by Xinhua.
āThe relevant rhetoric has fully exposed the deep-rooted ideological prejudice of the United StatesĀ ,ā Geng said, noting that the U.S. side has clearly known that ChinaĀ is a socialist country led by the CPC since the two countries established diplomatic ties more than 40 years ago.
āSince Chinese media agencies set up branches in the United StatesĀ , their nature has also been clearly known by the U.S. side,ā Geng said, adding that CPC leadership is still the most essential feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the nature of Chinese media remains unchanged.
Noting that countries are different in national conditions and in their way of managing and running media, Geng asked what made the United StatesĀ judge other countriesā media with its own standard and based on its own ideology, and label, stigmatize and unreasonably suppress Chinese media.
Geng said the Chinese side does not intend to change the political system of the United StatesĀ and hopes the United StatesĀ also respects that of China. āIf the U.S. side believes in the superiority of its system and the eventual victory of Western democracy and freedom, why would it fear the CPC and Chinese media?ā Geng asked.
