
New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): India recorded 1,009 active COVID-19 cases on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The rise includes 752 new cases reported recently, reflecting a slight uptick in infections, though most cases remain mild and manageable at home.
Kerala currently leads the country with the highest number of active cases, registering 430 infections. Other states with notable case counts include Maharashtra with 209 cases, Delhi with 104, Gujarat with 83, and Karnataka with 47.
In a concerning development, a 21-year-old COVID-19 patient undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kalwa Hospital in Thane passed away, as confirmed by the Thane Municipal Corporation. The patient, a resident of Mumbra, was admitted to the hospital on May 22, 2025.
Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava reviewed the evolving situation during a recent assessment of case reports emerging from multiple states, particularly Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Official sources emphasized that the majority of these cases are mild and being treated under home isolation protocols.
The Union Health Ministry has reiterated that while the virus continues to circulate, it is largely presenting as a mild, flu-like illness. The ministry, through its various agencies, including the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), remains vigilant and proactive in monitoring and responding to the situation.
Officials continue to encourage basic precautionary measures such as maintaining hand hygiene, wearing masks in crowded settings, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings to curb further spread. The Ministry assured the public that appropriate public health safeguards remain in place to address any emerging developments. (ANI)
