New Delhi [India], May 19 (ANI): In light of recent media reports about a surge in COVID-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) held a review meeting on Monday to assess the situation. The meeting was chaired by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) and attended by experts from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and central government hospitals.
According to sources, cases in Singapore and Hong Kong are reported to be mild, without unusual severity or increased mortality. Following the expert review, it was concluded that India’s COVID-19 situation remains under control, with no significant cause for concern.
As of May 19, 2025, India has reported 257 active COVID-19 cases, all of which are described as mild, with no hospitalisation required. This figure is considered extremely low given the country’s large population.
India maintains a robust surveillance system for respiratory viral illnesses, including COVID-19, through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and ICMR. The Union Health Ministry continues to remain vigilant, actively monitoring the situation and implementing appropriate measures to ensure public safety. (ANI)
