Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 25 (ANI): A dominant performance from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by young batters Dewald Brevis and Urvil Patel and backed by a stellar spin attack, saw the team end their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign on a high note with an emphatic 83-run victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Despite finishing last in the points table with four wins and ten losses (eight points), CSK delivered their best performance of the season. Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, remained at the top with nine wins and five losses (18 points).
Chasing a mammoth target of 231, GT’s innings faltered early. Skipper Shubman Gill was dismissed for 13 off 9 balls after a sharp catch by Urvil Patel at slip. The score was 24/1 in 2.3 overs. Anshul Kamboj and Khaleel Ahmed inflicted further damage, removing Jos Buttler (5) and Sherfane Rutherford (0) to leave GT struggling at 30/3 by the 5th over.
By the end of the powerplay, GT were 35/3 with Shahrukh Khan and Sai Sudharsan attempting a recovery. The team reached 50 in 7.4 overs and looked to rebuild, reaching 85/3 by the 10th over. However, Ravindra Jadeja turned the game on its head in the 11th over, dismissing Shahrukh (19 off 15) and Sudharsan (41 off 28) in quick succession.
The collapse continued as CSK’s spinners ran riot. Noor Ahmed took out Rashid Khan (12), Rahul Tewatia (14), and Arshad Khan (20), finishing with impressive figures of 3/21. Anshul Kamboj also claimed 3/13, while Jadeja contributed with 2/17. GT were bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs, with MS Dhoni taking the final catch to dismiss R Sai Kishore for 3.
Earlier, CSK posted their highest total of the season — 230/5 — after winning the toss and electing to bat. Ayush Mhatre got the team off to a flying start, smashing 34 off 17 balls, including three fours and three sixes, before falling to Prasidh Krishna.
Devon Conway (52 off 35) and Urvil Patel (37 off 19) kept the momentum going, helping CSK reach 68/1 at the end of the powerplay — their best of the season. Shivam Dube (17 off 8) added a quick cameo before Dewald Brevis took charge.
Brevis hammered a 19-ball fifty, his second of the season, and finished with 57 runs, combining with Ravindra Jadeja for a late onslaught that saw CSK cross the 200-run mark for the first time this year. The duo punished Mohammed Siraj in the 19th over for 20 runs, sealing a formidable total.
Among the GT bowlers, Prasidh Krishna (2/22) stood out, while Rashid Khan, R Sai Kishore, and Shahrukh Khan each picked a wicket.
Brief Scores:
- CSK: 230/5 (Dewald Brevis 57, Devon Conway 52; Prasidh Krishna 2/22)
- GT: 147 in 18.3 overs (Sai Sudharsan 41, Arshad Khan 20; Anshul Kamboj 3/13, Noor Ahmed 3/21, Ravindra Jadeja 2/17)
With this comprehensive win, CSK bowed out of IPL 2025 on a positive note, showcasing their depth and promise for the future. (ANI)
