New Delhi [India], May 5 (ANI): In response to a series of cyberattacks targeting Indian defence websites by Pakistan-based hackers, government sources have confirmed that comprehensive measures are underway to reinforce cybersecurity infrastructure, enhance digital defenses, and prevent future breaches.
Cybersecurity experts are currently monitoring digital platforms with heightened vigilance to detect further intrusion attempts, particularly those potentially orchestrated by threat actors affiliated with Pakistan.
Sources have revealed that a Twitter account operating under the name “Pakistan Cyber Force” has allegedly claimed responsibility for infiltrating sensitive databases belonging to the Indian Military Engineering Services and the Manohar Parrikar Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses.
These claims indicate that the attackers may have gained access to confidential personal information related to defense personnel, including login credentials and other classified data.
In a further escalation, the group is also reported to have attempted defacement of the official website of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence. The hackers allegedly replaced parts of the website’s interface with the Pakistani flag and an image of the Al-Khalid tank.
As a preventive measure, authorities have temporarily taken the website offline to conduct a comprehensive forensic audit. This step is intended to determine the full extent of the breach and to ensure that no residual vulnerabilities remain.
“Cybersecurity experts and relevant agencies are maintaining constant surveillance across cyberspace to detect and counter any further cyber threats, especially those emanating from Pakistan-based actors,” a source stated.
This ongoing monitoring initiative is aimed at swiftly identifying potential risks and deploying countermeasures to neutralize threats before they can materialize.
“In direct response to these developments, necessary actions are being implemented to fortify digital infrastructure, elevate cybersecurity readiness, and shield sensitive platforms from additional intrusion attempts,” the source added.
These efforts form part of a broader strategy to boost the resilience of digital assets and ensure that Indian defense institutions remain robust against evolving cyber threats.
The recent cyber offensives coincide with mounting tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals.
Government officials have vowed that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will face stern retribution.
