Kandla (Gujarat), March 13 (ANI): The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) at Kandla has achieved a historic milestone by handling more than 150 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo, setting a new benchmark among India’s major ports.
Surpassing all previous records, the port reached the 150 MMT mark with 18 days still remaining in the current fiscal year, making it the fastest-ever cargo handling achievement in the history of India’s major ports.
“This accomplishment reflects the commitment of Kandla Port towards operational excellence, efficient logistics management, and seamless maritime services,” DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh said in a statement on Friday.
Despite evolving geopolitical developments globally, the port has maintained strong operational resilience. Officials said the port remains fully prepared to manage increased vessel traffic.
“With more than 35 vessels expected to be handled in the next 72 hours, Kandla Port demonstrates robust demand and operational readiness,” Singh noted.
The DPA Chairman also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting that the milestone aligns with the government’s broader development vision.
“Under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister and the ambitions envisioned in Viksit Bharat @ 2047, this historic milestone is not merely a numerical achievement but a symbol of India’s growing maritime strength and the collective resolve to contribute toward the realization of that vision,” Singh said.
He added that the port authority remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening port capabilities, and contributing to India’s economic growth and global maritime leadership.
Earlier, the Deendayal Port Authority said in a post on X that it is gearing up to handle a surge in incoming vessels, with systems functioning efficiently to accommodate reconfigured voyages and ensure high service standards. (ANI)
