New Delhi [India], May 1 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a sweeping 20-day mega cleanliness and enforcement campaign across the national capital, declaring an uncompromising stance on encroachment, illegal garbage dumping, and bureaucratic negligence.
The campaign, which operates under what Gupta described as a coordinated “triple-engine” governance model, aims to cover roads, parks, sidewalks, and all public areas citywide. The initiative marks a unique collaboration across three tiers of government, united under a shared mission for urban transformation.
At a press conference following a high-level joint meeting with top administrative officials, Rekha Gupta stated, “For the first time, a three-tiered government is working together with a unified vision, thanks to the blessings of the people of Delhi.”
Officials present included all District Magistrates (DMs), Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and senior officers from the Delhi government and Municipal Corporation.
“This meeting was held with one mission: the transformation of Delhi. Over the next 20 days, we will implement an extensive cleanliness drive at every level and on a war footing,” Gupta declared.
Zone-level responsibilities have been clearly delineated. “Every corner of Delhi—every road, every sidewalk—must be cleaned on a large scale. Officers are now accountable for their specific areas,” Gupta emphasized.
In terms of enforcement, Gupta issued a strong warning: “There will be zero tolerance for encroachment and garbage dumping. Illegal dumping, encroachments, and debris will be strictly removed from footpaths, roads, parks, and markets. The blame game that previously existed among departments will no longer be tolerated.”
She made it clear that enforcement agencies, including DCPs and DMs, would be held directly responsible for any violations or lapses in safety and cleanliness in their zones.
Additionally, officers have been instructed to prioritize the cleaning of public toilets, drains, and sewers. The campaign also includes a directive to eliminate single-use plastics in markets, religious and institutional venues, temples, gurudwaras, and marriage halls.
Gupta stressed the importance of accountability: “If the system fails at any level, the senior officer in charge will be held accountable.”
“This 20-day campaign will deliver visible results. All levels of administration will work in concert under this triple-engine government to bring about a significant and lasting change in Delhi, which the public will witness,” she concluded.
The Municipal Corporation has been directed to actively oversee operations, while enforcement agencies will crack down on violations in all wards and public marketplaces.
