New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): Three armed robbers were arrested on Sunday following a brief but intense exchange of fire with police in Delhi’s Usmanpur area. Two of the accused sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
The suspects have been identified as Sameer (21) and Tarun (23), both residents of Shahdara, and Kunal Sharma (23), a resident of Pandav Nagar, Meerut. According to officials, the three opened fire on the police team using illegal firearms when they were confronted.
A police team from PS New Usmanpur, acting on a tip-off about suspects planning a robbery near 5th Pusta, approached the Yamuna Khadar area and observed three suspicious individuals. Upon being challenged by the police, the suspects attempted to flee into a nearby jungle and opened fire in an effort to escape.
In response, the police retaliated in self-defense using their service weapons. The tactical response led to the successful apprehension of the suspects. Two country-made pistols and three live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
Sameer and Tarun were shot in the legs and subsequently taken to JPC Hospital for treatment. A crime scene and forensic inspection was conducted following the encounter.
Initial investigations revealed that Sameer has a prior criminal record, including involvement in robbery cases registered at PS Mansarovar Park. During interrogation, all three accused confessed to their role in the present case and several other criminal activities, including a modus operandi where they lured victims via online dating apps before robbing them.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at PS New Usmanpur. Further investigation is ongoing. (ANI)
