New Delhi [India], April 23 (ANI): In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which has led many tourists to abruptly cut short their trips to the Kashmir Valley, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed airlines to increase the number of flights to and from Srinagar in response to heightened demand for outbound travel.
The DGCA has also issued an advisory asking airlines to consider waiving cancellation and rescheduling fees. “The airlines are also requested to consider waiving cancellation and rescheduling fees and provide all necessary assistance to tourists facing unexpected circumstances and challenges during this difficult time,” the advisory stated.
IndiGo, one of India’s major airlines, announced on Wednesday that it has extended fee waivers for flight changes and cancellations until April 30. These waivers apply to bookings made on or before April 22. Additionally, the airline announced the operation of two special flights on April 23.
“In light of the current situation in Srinagar, we’ve extended waivers on rescheduling/cancellation. We’re also operating two special flights on April 23,” IndiGo posted on X. “We have extended waivers for rescheduling or cancellations for travel until April 30, applicable to bookings made on or before April 22. Additionally, we are operating two flights today, April 23, to and from Srinagar, one each from Delhi and Mumbai.”
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack earlier in the day outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar. The tragic incident, which targeted innocent tourists, has been labeled one of the most significant terror attacks in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
While the government has not yet officially confirmed the number of casualties from the Pahalgam attack, security forces have intensified search operations to locate the perpetrators. In the wake of the attack, security in the Valley has been heightened, and visuals from Pahalgam show eerily deserted streets in what is typically a bustling tourist hub.
Several organizations have also called for a Jammu bandh in protest and solidarity with the victims. (ANI)
