Rome [Italy], May 28 (ANI): As part of India’s ongoing diplomatic campaign under Operation Sindoor, an all-party parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad met with Giulio Tremonti, President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Commission of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, on Wednesday. The delegation also held discussions with Stefania Craxi, President of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Senate of Italy.
This visit to Italy follows the delegation’s earlier engagement in France, where members briefed French parliamentarians and officials on India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader stance on cross-border terrorism. The outreach aims to build global consensus and cooperation against state-sponsored terrorism, with a particular focus on Pakistan’s role in harboring and facilitating terrorist networks.
The delegation, led by Prasad, includes Daggubati Purandeswari and Samik Bhattacharya from the BJP, Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena (UBT), Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh from Congress, along with former minister MJ Akbar and Ambassador Pankaj Saran.
While in France, the delegation held meetings with senators from the India-France Friendship Group and the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence in Paris. Prasad emphasized that the French lawmakers expressed unified support for India’s efforts against terrorism. “We are very grateful to the Vice Chair of the Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee, along with all her colleagues in the Senate… They totally agreed that France, India, and the democratic world need to speak in one voice in the fight against terrorism emanating from Pakistan and supported by the State of Pakistan,” said Prasad.
He further noted the warmth and solidarity expressed by the French legislators. “It was a very emotional moment for us. We convey our great regards and thanks to the members of the Senate who have wholeheartedly supported the cause of India,” he added.
Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio, Vice-President of the India-France Friendship Group in the Senate, echoed this sentiment. “We are extremely happy to receive the Indian delegation. We recalled our strong bilateral ties and our common cause against terrorism—a menace which has affected India, Europe, and France,” she said. “It is important to combat terrorism and it is a shared threat which should be countered to preserve liberty in true democracies.”
The delegation’s visit to Italy marks the continuation of a broader diplomatic engagement across Europe, focused on garnering international understanding and support for India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. (ANI)
